The Observatory Metric Century | Sunday, June 3 at 10am
This is a training ride for the Rialto-TRADE’s team; they’re participating in the Pan Mass Challenge. Rebecca Fetner called this ride a Friendraiser – not a fundraiser. Speaking of fundraising, Rialto-TRADE is having a PMC event on Thursday evening – so on Sunday we’re working off all that food and drink from Thursday by riding 100 kilometers.
The Rialto-TRADE team is leading the Observatory Metric Century ride. Some of the Studio’s Team and Club will be on hand, too, to help organize – and add a bit of town-line fun.

Food is always a good excuse to ride. For this journey we have four enticements:
- ~ Mile 22: We’ve set a stop at our favorite pastry store: Keyks in Chelmsford.
- ~ Mile 31: For the Observatory climb we’ve got our Sul Posto Cafe on the road. We’ll have cold brew, iced tea, limeade, gelato, and a few other treats for you.
- ~ Mile 49: We’re back at Keyks again. Are you sensing a trend?
- ~ Mile 64: If for no other reason, finish the 100k for the post-ride sandwiches provided by TRADE Restaurant. That alone will make the ride worthwhile!
It’s an unusual – in a good way – loop that heads north. The ride’s apogee is the beautiful MIT Haystack Observatory. If you haven’t visited it before, the observatory makes the ride worthwhile. We’re fairly certain that you’ll end up on some roads that you’ve not done before. Pamela Blayley – ride leader extraordinaire and prolific cycling writer – was the inspiration for the route. David Nanian – RSC Club member and sometimes Foursquare Mayor – mapped out the details of the route, along with other aspects of the entire day; think gelato.
The Studio has custom cue sheets for this memorable ride. We’ve also got GPX files for those with Garmin and other GPS devices. If riding while reading a cue sheet is not your style, we have some ride leaders and ride sweepers for both of the rides.
Because TRADE is providing post-ride sandwiches, we ask that you RSVP so everyone gets some food.

What to Bring on the Ride
- Your helmet, riding shoes, and I.D. Riders seem to forget these items more often than a person might think.
- Appropriate clothes for changing temperatures. The difference between 10 am and 2 pm could be 10-15 degrees. Be prepared.
- Tool kit including at least one appropriate tube. It’s a long ride so it will be good to have all the tools you might need; there may be times when you’re riding solo.
Waiver: RSC requires each participant to sign a Ride Studio Cafe rider waiver. We have waivers at the Studio for you to complete and sign, and you can review a copy of our waiver here.
Parking: If you’re driving to participate in the ride, make sure that you do not park in the Lemon Grass restaurant parking lot; you will get towed. Fortunately, there is a ton of parking in the area–and it is really inexpensive.
