Public Bikes:  Mass Transit For One

Public Bikes are beautifully simple city and commuter bikes.  They ride really well, have great price points, and have a great company story.

A Public is the perfect bike for town, city, commuting, and bike path riding.  Each bike comes with full fenders and a chain guard–all color matched.  And, lots of options and accessories.  The coolest production commuters ever.

Public Badge with Serial Number

Each Public has a serial number on the badge.  This one is number 365.  Pretty cool-–maybe for riding 365 days a year?

Public offers three gearing options:

  • Single Speed:  their lightest model for flat lands, fit riders, and walk up apartments.
  • Three Speeds:  for modest hills with extra power on flat lands.
  • Eight Speeds:  For all purposes; their most versatile model for any terrain.

The three and eight speed models have internal gears so they are very clean, low maintenance, and look great.

Public sizing is really simple:  two frame types in three sizes each.

Some Thoughts on Purchasing a Public Bike

You can buy your bike directly from Public–along with lots of great accessories–or you can buy your Public from Ride Studio.  Keep in mind that if you buy from the Studio you have the benefit of:

  1. Ensuring you get the right size–and the right fit.
  2. No shipping charge–typically about $70; they ship from San Francisco.
  3. No bike assembly charge–typically about $70 for a Public Bike.

Whichever purchasing route you take we’re certain that you’ll love your Public!

Mixte or Diamond?

Publics are available in mixte versions and diamond frame versions.

Mixte bikes are sometimes referred to as "step-through" bikes--easier to get on and off, and sometimes more confidence inspiring.

Diamond frame bikes are a bit lighter.

Other than that, you can't go wrong with either type.
