New York City is saturated with coffee. In fact, one doesn’t have to look far for kawfee, as they say in the City. Over the last two years, more than 50 new cafes and coffee bars have popped up including Cafe Pedlar, Third Rail Coffee, Roots Cafe, and even Joyride. What do they all have in common, you ask? Stumptown. The Portland-based roaster recently set up shop in the Red Hook district of Brooklyn complete with a tasting room. Duane Sorenson, the brains behind the beans, and Stumptown can be credited for the so-called “Third Wave” of the coffee movement, a term coined in 2002. And his mantra:
“Stumptown offers the best of the best.”
Hairbender, their signature blend and top-selling coffee, is our espresso of choice. ”A complex blend featuring coffee from all three of the major growing regions: Latin America, East Africa and Indonesia. Each of the coffees that comprise this blend can stand strongly on their own, though the relationship between their flavors is what defines the cornerstones of this blend. Flavors that include milk chocolate, caramel, jasmine, meyer lemon, apricot and pineapple.”
